If you’re sick with a cold, then it’s important to keep your smile in tip-top shape. Now, our dentist, Dr. Sun Valley, knows smile care probably isn’t your first priority, but you should care for your smile like you care for your body when you’re sick. Little did you know, your teeth and gums could be in danger when you’re sick. So, make sure to do the following things as you rest and recover:
-Brush and floss often: Brushing and flossing can clean your teeth, gums and mouth while you’re sick. This can help you eliminate the bacteria in the mouth and it can even help you prevent the formation of cavities and gum disease. So, make sure to brush at least twice a day and floss once a day. After you recover from your sickness, make sure to replace your toothbrush.
-Drink a lot of liquid: Water and other sugar-free liquids can wash your mouth regularly from the bacteria that reside. It can also help you prevent dry mouth, which is a problem that can promote cavities and even bad breath. So, make sure to keep a water bottle with you and sip it throughout the day.
-Choose sugar-free medication: When you take sugary medication, like cough syrup or cough drops, then you are promoting the development of cavities. It’s best to choose sugar-free medication or at least rinse your mouth with water or brush your teeth after taking it.
